Malik Nabers clears concussion protocol after full practice, Giants ‘potentially’ could add offensive tackle

Giants rookie receiver Malik Nabers cleared the concussion protocol Thursday afternoon after being evaluated by an independent neurological consultant.

Nabers progressed to full practice participation after responding well to his limited work on Wednesday. So he is now on track to play Sunday when the Giants (2-4) host the Philadelphia Eagles (3-2) at MetLife Stadium.

In an unexpected wrinkle, the Giants added a groin injury to Nabers’ injury report on Thursday after he completed practice. But there was no indication that the new ailment would jeopardize his return to game action for the first time in three weeks.

DABOLL: GIANTS MAY ADD AN ‘OT’

Head coach Brian Daboll said the Giants “potentially” could add a veteran offensive tackle to their roster in the wake of Andrew Thomas’ season-ending foot surgery.

Joe Schoen 2022 third-round pick Josh Ezeudu is expected to start at left tackle on Sunday in Thomas’ place, but the Giants are aware that their current depth chart may not be sufficient.

Ezeudu struggled badly last season in relief tackle duty. The team has not shown any in-game confidence in Schoen 2022 first-round pick Evan Neal. And Schoen did not add a swing tackle in free agency or draft a single offensive lineman in April.

GIANTS’ LAWRENCE, BURNS SIT OUT AGAIN

Defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence (hip), edge rusher Brian Burns (groin), punter Jamie Gillan (left hamstring) and corner Adoree Jackson (neck) did not practice Thursday. Jackson’s injury and absence were new.

Running back Devin Singletary (groin), wide receiver Darius Slayton (groin), special teams receiver Bryce Ford-Wheaton (shoulder) and special teams linebacker Ty Summers (hamstring) were limited.

Nabers and wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson (ankle) were upgraded to full participation.

EAGLES’ CARTER, SLAY DON’T PRACTICE

Eagles left tackle Jordan Mailata (hamstring), tight end Dallas Goedert (hamstring), defensive tackle Jalen Carter (shoulder), corner Darius Slay (knee) and corner Eli Ricks (groin) did not practice Thursday. Carter’s injury and absence was new. Slay was downgraded from being limited Wednesday.

Defensive tackle Milton Williams (ankle), linebacker Oren Burks (groin) and defensive tackle Byron Young (hamstring) were limited.

Outside linebacker Jalyx Hunt (ankle), safety Sydney Brown (knee), tight end Albert Okwuegbunam (abdomen) and wide receiver Ainias Smith (ankle) were full.
