Major supermarket to let mums and kids queue jump in big change to stores

A MAJOR supermarket is letting mums and kids queue jump in a big change to stores.

Mum-only checkouts will be opening this Mothering Sunday across 497 stores to make their day “extra” special.

Some 50,000 boxes of chocolates will also be given to mums at checkout on 30 March, whilst shop assistants will assist them with packing their shopping.

Morrisons is introducing the “mum lanes” for one day only and will feature signs across its stores to inform mums where to go.

In order to make their shopping experience even more enjoyable, the supermarket giant’s customer assistants will also be on hand to entertain the children.

Customers will also be able to earn rewards when picking up presents for their mums.

These can be redeemed on items such as chocolates and fudge, as well as products from the Market Street Cakeshop, which will give More Card members 50 points.

Some 500 points will also be up for grabs when buying giant cookies.

Gareth Lloyd, Head of Marketing Events at Morrisons, said“The reality is that many mums still end up doing chores like the weekly shop on Mother’s Day – even though it is supposed to be the day that they are spoiled!

“Therefore, we’ve launched Mums’ Lanes in stores to give a little something back to all the mums shopping with us on their special day.”

This comes as a number of supermarkets have slashed theirs prices on Mother’s Day gifts ahead of the big day.

Earlier this week, ASDA shoppers rushed to snap up a stunning Mother’s Day gift that’s usually £54.99 but is scanning for just £3.

Exploring Popular Supermarkets in the UK

One eagle-eyed shopper spotted the LEGO Botanical Roses set at a bargain price in Asda and shared their find in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group.

“Came across this wee bargain in Asda Edinburgh instore last night,” they wrote.

“Lego Flower Bouquet set was £37, reduced to £29.47, but scanned at £3!”

Another shopper confirmed spotting the same deal at the Aberdeen Beach branch of Asda, sparking excitement among bargain hunters.

Ways to make your mum feel special

The Sun also reported on the number of different ways shoppers can help make their mum feel special on Mother’s Day.

Follow these tips — and show how much you care, without spending heaps of cash . . .

TOP TIPPLES: Brew tea in a pot (as opposed to the mug) for the best taste and you can then use it to top up all guests.

Loose leaves are often more flavoursome than tea bags. Ikea has a glass teapot, £10, with an integrated infuser that will do the job.

A glass of fizz makes the experience feel a little more luxurious. A bottle of prosecco spumante is £5.45 at Lidl.

SWEET TREATS: You don’t need to lay on lots of different varieties of sandwiches. Cucumber, cheese and tuna or salmon are more than enough. Simply trim crusts and cut into rectangular fingers.

Making your own cake is a nice touch for Mum.

You can create a Victoria sponge cake for 48p a serving by following the recipe on realfood.tesco.com.

If you’re not feeling creative in the kitchen, head to Lidl and you can pick up a four-pack of scones for £1.49, plus clotted cream, £1.99, and strawberry jam, £1.49, if you’re a loyalty member.

You can also get cakes including carrot cake, lemon drizzle and red velvet for £2.50 from Sainsbury’s with a Nectar card.

TOP TABLE: Dig out a clean table cloth and napkins to make the experience feel fancy. And add some cheap blooms to the table. A bunch of daffodils is £1 from Sainsbury’s.
