Summer is upon us and as the hot weather approaches the risk of sweat stains leaving their mark on your beautiful white bedding and linens increases. Speaking to Express.co.uk, Dr. Beckmann spokesperson, Natasha Brook explained how you can easily clean these unwanted stains and restore your linens to their former “fresh and white” appearance.
“When it comes to your sheets, don’t let sweat stains bring you down this summer,” she told Express.co.uk.
“Try sponging the affected area with a mixture of cold water and washing up liquid to prevent the stain from setting.
“For stubborn stains, use a dedicated stain remover and leave it to work its magic for 15 minutes before popping in a cool wash cycle – repeat the process if necessary until the mark is no longer visible.”
Even if you are employing stain-removing tactics, Natasha also emphasised the importance of making sure you are washing your white bedding correctly. If you notice your sheets are dulling, it may be because you are making a crucial mistake when washing.
“Who doesn’t love fresh white when it comes to towels and linens? To keep these pristine always separate whites from colours to prevent colour transfer in the laundry,” she said.
Alternatively, there is a natural method which some experts recommend using to lift sweat stains from sheets and other fabrics, such as T-shirts.
Distilled white vinegar can work wonders to lift stains on a variety of fabrics, though it is important to test it on a small patch before proceeding to clean larger areas. This will ensure there is no unwanted discolouration.
To begin, create a mixture of water and distilled white vinegar in equal parts. Then, dab the strained area with the mixture using a clean cloth or sponge.
Make sure not to use a cloth or sponge that has any colour which may bleed onto your white fabric.
Gently rub the stained area in a circular motion before allowing the mixture to sit on the stain for a few minutes.
Rinse the area with cold water to remove the mixture and then wash the garment using your usual liquid detergent.
Once you have removed your garment from the wash, if the stain is still there you may want to repeat the process.
