A SURPRISING location has been announced as the stage for a new Macy’s – despite the iconic department store closing 150 others.
Macy’s has been forced to close major flagship stores all over the country recently, but has managed to claw back one lone location.

As the retail industry continues in its slow freefall, Macy’s is one of the brands that has been hit the hardest.
The iconic US department store was recently forced to close one of its most popular locations in Philadelphia in March, as reported by The US Sun.
Macy’s has already announced plans to close 150 underperforming stores.
At the time, Tony Spring, chairman and chief executive officer of Macy’s said: “We are closing underproductive Macy’s stores to allow us to focus our resources in our go–forward stores.”
Shoppers have also reacted negatively to another beloved location going out of business, in Dayton, Miami.
The spot is set to close by the end of the year, and customers have cried that “The entire industry is dying.”
A post on Facebook announcing the news reflected the indignant tone many others shared in the comments.
The caption of the post said: “Looks like the rumors were correct.
“Dayton is going to become Macy-less.
“Great news for Von Maur, the only department store left in Dayton.
“I can’t believe people still stick up for Macy’s. Federated owned this region.
“They used to be based here. Macy’s urinated it all away. Incompetent.”
SOME PROMISING NEWS
But Macy’s shoppers, as well as those directly in the Miami area, need not fear.
Despite the news of the Dayton closure, The Miami Herald has reported that another location is surprisingly opening in South Florida.
While details are still sparse, the new spot will open at Midway Crossings, according to the management at the popular mall.
Isabella Hershey, an external communications associate with Macy’s, said: “We’re not able to comment on any specific plans at this time.
“As we finalize these plans, we will share more details.”
What we do know so far, however, seems promising.
BRANDS HARD HIT BY BANKRUPTCIES
Many chains have struggled to adapt to a post-Covid retail landscape, with several companies filing for bankruptcy
Sterling Organization, the property management company behind Midway Crossings, has listed a Macy’s as “coming soon” on its website.
The listing also indicated that the new Macy’s will be 31,296 square feet, making it one of the bigger spaces in the mall.
A map of the mall notably includes the Macy’s logo on its plans, placing it next to the center’s Five Guys and T-Mobile near the food court.
A lease has been confirmed to be “in place” by a representative of the property management company, but construction has not started yet.
Therefore, it is hard to gauge a timeline for the new Macy’s, but shoppers in the area can rest assured that it is coming.
More details are expected to be released soon.
In the meantime, there are other Macy’s in South Florida that can be enjoyed.
These include locations in some other high profile malls, such as Aventura, Dadeland, Miami International and The Falls.
