Luke Littler surpasses Olympians and football stars in Google's Top 2024 searches


17-year-old Luke Littler has been presented with a special dartboard-shaped plaque at his home to celebrating being Google’s most googled sportsperson of 2024, surpassing even Olympians and football megastars from the Premier League.

Google’s yearly search report casts light on the nation’s curiosities, offering insights into the most popular queries, key public figures, top moments, and burning questions across the UK in 2024.

Littler commented, “It’s been an amazing year for me personally, and for the sport of darts as a whole. I can’t quite believe I’m trending higher than both the Prime Minister and the King.”

He ranked third in the ‘People’ searches following Kate Middleton and Donald Trump. The Euros commanded the top spot for the general search terms, with many seeking to find out “When is the Euros final? “.

Other pertinent enquiries like “How to vote in the UK” and “When is the General Election” saw significant spikes. Looking abroad, the US Presidential Election gripped UK curiosity, evidenced by frequent searches asking “When is the US Election? ” and pushing Donald Trump to second place in the trending ‘People’ category.

Popular cultural moments like Eurovision prompted Brits to search “How to vote for the UK in Eurovision”.

Meanwhile, the much-anticipated Oasis reunion tour prompted a frenzy of searches on “How to get Oasis tickets”, ranking as the second most asked ‘How to’ question of the year.

This year Brits crowned the Gallagher brothers at the summit of the musicians’ league and Oasis tickets were all the rage, trending in searches.

Cyndi Lauper left fans thrilled after her electrifying performance at Glastonbury Festival and announcement of her “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour”, triggering a spike in search interest for the iconic singer’s long-awaited solo tour, her first in over ten years.

The craze for ‘true’ crime kept soaring, with Fool Me Once and Baby Reindeer clinching top spots on TV search trends, while Ryan Murphy’s chilling Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story carved its name into the mix.

Reel buffs relentlessly searched for Joker: Folie a Deux and Deadpool & Wolverine, demonstrating their anticipation for these blockbuster hits, whereas the television adaptation of Jilly Cooper’s 80s hit novel Rivals stole its share of limelight on the small screen chart.
