Luke Humphries says only two players can test him after Premier League Darts hat-trick

Humphries has now clinched the £10,000 weekly winner bonus and put maximum points on the board in Brighton, Nottingham and Dublin since the start of the month. Next week in Belfast he will bid to become the first player ever to win four consecutive Premier League nights.

Peter Wright, Nathan Aspinall and Michael Smith were the 29-year-old’s victims in Ireland as he romped to comfortable wins over all three. Former world champion Smith was dispatched 6-2 in the final, with Humphries posting an average in excess of 105.

After a small dip in form following his World Darts Championship win in early January, ‘Cool Hand’ is now back to his best and believes, at present, he is extremely difficult to beat.

“I’m not being arrogant, but if I play my A game there is only a couple of people who can test me in that manner – Luke Littler and Michael van Gerwen are the only two, I think, when I’m at my best,” Humphries told Sky Sports.

“I’m not unbeatable but I’m putting in those kind of performances where it’ll take something big to beat me. If I keep playing like this it’s just going to take a tough performance to beat me.”

Humphries, along with Littler, opted to sit out the Players Championship event in Hildesheim earlier this week. The added freshness paid dividends for Humphries, although Littler crashed out against Smith in the quarter-finals.

“The last three weeks have been a dream for me and I can’t ask much more of myself,” he continued. “I want to win this, I want to win. If I’m going to do that, I have to put myself in the best shape.

“I’m hoping to create a record and become the first person to win four Premier League nights in a row. I think 26 or 27 points will get you into the play-offs, but now maybe 30.”
