Luis Gil will start Game 4 of World Series for Yankees

LOS ANGELES — The Yankees officially tabbed their starter for Game 4 of the World Series, as Luis Gil will take the ball on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium.

Aaron Boone quickly announced that decision before Game 2 on Saturday. Clarke Schmidt had already been picked to start Game 3 on Monday, Yankee Stadium’s first World Series game since 2009.

Gil has made just one start this October. That came in Game 4 of the ALCS, as the right-hander held the Guardians to two earned runs over four innings in an 8-6 win.

Gil also totaled three hits, three walks, three strikeouts and 79 pitches in his postseason debut. Prior to that, Gil had not pitched in a game since the Yankees’ second-to-last regular season contest.

While the Yankees officially announced their Game 4 starter, Dave Roberts revealed that Walker Buehler will start Game 3. That will set Los Angeles up for a bullpen game in Game 4.

Buehler has made two starts this postseason, allowing six earned runs and 10 hits over nine innings. All six runs came in an NLDS start against the Padres.

“We love Walker in big games,” Roberts said. “The road isn’t going to faze him. It also allows him potentially to be available for a Game 7 too.”
