Long Island man admits to piercing housmate’s heart, killing him

A Long Island man who fatally stabbed his 63-year-old housemate has pleaded guilty to manslaughter, prosecutors announced Tuesday.

Philip Walker, 58, of Mastic, admitted to using a knife to stab the victim three times on June 20, 2023.

During the brutal attack — which happened inside a room at the Shirley Motel on Montauk Highway — Walker “pierced the victim’s heart,” the Suffolk County district attorney’s office said in a news release.

The fight occurred in front of a group of people who were also in the hotel room with the two men, Newsday reported last year.

Walker reportedly told investigators he was “seeing red” when he stabbed the victim.

When first responders arrived at the scene just after 5 p.m., they found Vaughn outside the room “bleeding from the left side of his chest and abdomen.”

The victim was rushed to the Long Island Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead approximately an hour later, after “doctors tried but failed to repair the hole in his heart,” prosecutors said.

Walker fled from the motel after the incident but was arrested two days later at a family member’s home in North Amityville, some 30 miles west of Mastic.

On Feb. 14, 2025, he pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter before Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen M. Wilutis.

Walker is due back in court on March 25, when he’s expected to be sentenced to 20 years for this “senseless act of violence that claimed a life,” District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney said Tuesday.
