Liverpool win leaves rival fans furious as Leicester concede late penalty – 'what a joke'

Liverpool defeated Leicester with a late penalty at Anfield which sparked a furious reaction from rival fans on social media.

The Reds’ winning streak continues in the Premier League but it looked like they were going to drop their first points of the season against the Foxes at home.

The score was 1-1 during stoppage time after James Maddison canceled out Sadie Mane’s opener but everything changed three minutes before full time as referee Chris Kavanagh pointed to the penalty spot.

The late drama occurred when Marc Albrighton appeared to have come in contact with the back of Mane’s leg and brought the winger down following a moment of confusion in Kasper Schmeichel’s box.

James Milner took the spot kick and sent the ball to the back of the net as the home fans erupted with joy.

However, Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers and players, such as Ayoze Perez, were livid after the final whistle as they thought the decision was wrong, even though it was backed by VAR.

Rival fans shared the sentiment as they took to Twitter to vent their frustrations towards the penalty which they described as a joke.

One fan tweeted: “Just give liverpool the title now, theyve cheated their way through so many games in the last 2 years and even when it looks like they’ll drop points the referee lets them score. Joke.”

Another one posted: ”Penalty to Liverpool of course, what a joke.”

A third wrote: “A joke of a penalty saving Liverpool.”

Someone else stated: “Liverpool penalty? Total joke…….”

And another fan tweeted: “F**k sake how lucky are Liverpool going to get this season, what a joke.”

Liverpool have won all eight of their first matches in the Premier League this season.

They are now top of the table, eight points ahead of second-placed Manchester City who will be taking on Wolves on Sunday (2pm).
