Ruben Amorim has hit out at questions over his future after reports suggested he had agreed a deal to become the new Liverpool manager. Amorim has grown frustrated after being quizzed on his links with the Reds.
The 39-year-old is highly rated among Europe’s top clubs for his work at Sporting CP. The Portuguese giants are four points clear at their domestic league, with Amorim set to win the second title of his four-year reign.
However, in the backdrop of that title challenge has been increasingly intense speculation over Amorim’s future. Liverpool are believed to have turned to the former midfielder after learning that Xabi Alonso does not want to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
Reports earlier this week claimed that Amorim had agreed a deal to move to Liverpool at the end of the season. But in a feisty press conference ahead of Sporting’s trip to Gil Vicente on Friday, Amorim has asked for the story to stop and insists he will no longer speak on the subject.

“I did not meet Liverpool for any interview and there’s no agreement, it’s not true,” the Portuguese tactician said on Thursday.
“I’m the Sporting manager, I want to win here and I didn’t meet any club. Nothing has been agreed.
“Stop with this story. This is the last time I speak about my future.”
Amorim remains the strong favourite to replace Klopp at the end of the season. The former midfielder, who only turned 39 in January, has also been linked with Barcelona – a testament to his work in Portugal.
Liverpool are widely reported to have favoured a move for their former midfielder Alonso after learning that Klopp will step down this summer. However, Alonso has decided to stay at Bayer Leverkusen at least for one more season.
Amorim emerged as the next strongest candidate having enjoyed success with Sporting. The club won the Primeira Liga in his first season and are on course for another league title. They knocked Arsenal out of the Europa League last season.
Liverpool have also been linked with Brighton’s Roberto Di Zerbi but are reported to prefer a move for Amorim. De Zerbi is likely to have interest from Bayern Munich when Thomas Tuchel departs in the summer. The Italian is viewed as having overachieved at Brighton, who played in the Europa League this season for the first time in the club’s history.
