Liverpool are set to part ways with Thiago Alcantara this summer in what could be one of the biggest ‘what if’ players in recent Premier League history. The midfielder has struggled with countless injury problems since joining the club from Bayern Munich in 2020.
After several sensational performances in the Bundesliga and with Barcelona, Thiago arrived with high expectations as he looked to inject some quality and composure into the Liverpool midfield.
The Spaniard showed his class during his first few campaigns at the club before his fitness troubles stopped him in his tracks, and his woes have left many pondering how much more Liverpool could have achieved if their No. 6 was available more frequently.
Thiago is largely regarded as one of the most technically gifted stars in Europe, and his ability to dictate tempo and spray passes across the field has been incredibly hard to replace for Jurgen Klopp.

The 33-year-old is out of contract at Liverpool at the end of the season, though there is a significant silver lining to his exit. According to The Athletic, Thiago is one of the highest-paid players at Anfield this season, along with Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.
The playmaker currently earns £250,000 per week with the Merseyside outfit, and his departure would free up a significant portion of their wages. As such, Liverpool will certainly be able to bring in a direct replacement for Thiago on a lower salary.
