List reveals second most spoken language in all 48 European countries


Europe is home to 746.4 million people in 48 countries. Over 200 languages are spoken across the 19.53million km² continent.

For each country, we’ve chosen the language spoken by the highest percentage of residents after the official language.

English is the most second common language, with 21 of the 48 countries speaking it as a second language.

French, Russian and Hungarian also cropped up multiple times.

Europe’s second-most popular languages include 15 different tongues, with official languages including Catalan, Belarusian, Gaeilge, Sami, and Moldovan also featured.
