A lightning strike on the Fourth of July injured as many as a dozen people near a South Carolina sand bar, according to reports.
The incident was reported around 2:10 p.m. Thursday afternoon near a river by the Lawshe Plantation, where a tree was struck by the lightning bolt, according to news station WPDE.
Emergency responders brought rushed three people to the hospital, including one of whom was critically injured. The two other victims are being treated for minor injuries, news station WCSC reported.
The National Weather Service initially reported that four people were unresponsive.
