Many have been surprised by Donald Trump’s selection of Oregon Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer as his labor secretary nominee. The defeated freshman Republican congresswoman is not seen as hostile to unions and as a generally reasonable pick in a sea of far more chaotic and unqualified cabinet announcements — you won’t find her name attached to investigations of possible sex assault (Pete Hegseth for defense), promoting quack medical conspiracies (Bobby Kennedy Jr. for health) or an having an affinity for foreign dictators (Tulsi Gabbard for intelligence).
