A US rock group have been forced to cancel an upcoming gig after one of their members suffered a “non-life-threatening medical emergency” during a sound check.

The band in question have apologised to fans, after they were forced to pull the plug on the opening date of their tour, and also informed them of how they go about getting their money back.

Alice In Chains were going through their final preparations, ahead of what was supposed to be the start of a run of US gigs, kicking off at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

But they say a non-specified medical emergency, involving drummer Sean Kinney, means they’ve had to put proceedings on hold for now.

A statement uploaded to Instagram and X reads: “After our soundcheck this evening at the Mohegan Sun Arena, Sean experienced a non-life-threatening medical emergency.

“We unfortunately have to cancel tonight’s show. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

“Refunds are available at the point of purchase.”

The announcement came late in the day, with some fans having already arrived at the arena, when the announcement was made.

Neither Sean, nor the rest of the band, have made any further comment about the extent of the medical emergency, or clarified whether the group’s upcoming gigs might also be cancelled.

Alice In Chains are due to play a concert in New Jersey on May 10, and then in Ohio the following day on May 11.

They are then set to play Nashville, Tennesse on May 13, before moving on to Dothan, Alabama on May 15, then Daytona Beach, Florida, on May 16.

They are also supposed to be travelling to the UK in the summer, for an appearance at Black Sabbath’s last ever show, at Villa Park in Birmingham, on July 5.

Alice In Chains have been on somewhat of a tour hiatus in recent years, playing just one gig in 2024, with their last tour coming in 2023.

Speaking earlier this year, Sharon Osbourne, the wife of Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne, said this will definitely be the band’s last ever concert.

Talking to to BBC news, she said of her husband, who she’s been married to since 1982: “He’s doing great. He’s doing really great.

“He’s so excited about this, about being with the guys again and all his friends. It’s exciting for everyone.

“Ozzy didn’t have a chance to say goodbye to his friends, to his fans, and he feels there’s no been no full stop.

“This is his full stop.”
