Leeds Bradford airport chaos as 'drone sighting' forces flights to be suspended


An emergency was declared at the popular Yorkshire airport where flights have either been suspended or diverted to Humberside and Manchester. Other flights have been placed on hold. The incident was reported 20 minutes ago.

Up to three Jet2 flights were affected by the incident.

These were the LS186 from Malaga now diverted to Manchester, the LS376 from Menorca is heading Humberside and the LS276 Alicante which is holding as is the BE7601 from Southampton.

Social media users flocked online following the news.

One said: “Evacuated from the terminal at leeds Bradford airport.”

Another added: “So just about to take off when drone spotted so flight stopped!! Guess I could be sitting on this plane for a while — travelling to Belfast from Leeds Bradford Airport.”

It remains unknown how many drones were senate the airport.

The drones sighting comes after hundreds of flights in and out of Gatwick Airport were cancelled between December 19 an 21 causing havoc.

This affected flights for around 140,000 passengers.
