Lee Rigby killer 'seeking move to VIP jail in Nigeria'

One of the men who hacked Lee Rigby to death is reportedly trying to get moved to a ‘cushy’ jail in Nigeria.

Michael Adebowale is said to be desperate to get out of HMP Wakefield, where he is serving a life sentence.

The 37-year-old, who killed the Fusilier outside his barracks in Woolwich, South London, in 2013, is claimed to favour moving to Kirikiri prison in Africa.

According to The Sun, Adebowale has asked for advice on how to bring about a move.

In 2014 the UK and Nigeria reached an agreement which can see prisoners serve the end of their sentence there – but neither country are likely to sanction it going ahead in Adebowale’s case.

Adebowale was born in the UK, but has Nigerian parents.

An insider told The Sun: “Michael hates Wakefield. It’s stuffed full of lags who see him as a top target.”

Lee’s mum Lyn said: “He should serve his sentence here and not try to exploit the law for a cushier life.”

The Nigerian prison reportedly has a VIP section, and can house up to 5,000 inmates.

HMP Wakefield, by comparison, is nicknamed “Monster Mansion” because it houses high profile murderers and sex offenders.
