Frito-Lay has issued a limited recall for its Lay’s Classic Potato Chips over potential exposure to milk, which is not among the ingredients listed on their iconic yellow bags, the Food and Drug Administration announced.
The Texas-based snack brand said it was recently alerted by a “consumer contact” to the potential presence of “undeclared milk” in a “limited number” of its potato chip bags, which could pose “the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction” for those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk.
The resulting recall covers 13-oz., party-size bags of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips distributed to retail stores and e-commerce distributors in Oregon and Washington State, according to a statement posted on the FDA’s website.
The tainted chips would have been available for purchase as early as Nov. 3, 2024.
Frito-Lay urged customers to throw away bags with a “Guaranteed Fresh” date of Feb. 11, 2025, and the manufacturing codes of 6462307xx or 6463307xx. They can also reach out to the company with any related concerns.
No allergic reactions have been reported due to the undeclared milk and the company says none of its other chip flavors were affected.
