While we know rhubarb can be great to use for baking, jams and compotes sometimes we want to use rhubarb for other dishes.

Firstly, trim any excess leaves that are on the rhubarb as these are toxic to eat.

You can add the stalks of the rhubarb to a ziplock bag and leave it unopened.

Another way to store them is in a cling film but you’ll need to add holes to the film so it can let out any ethylene gas which can be found in the veg. If you let the gasses out then this will help stop the veg from ripening too quickly.

Next, you can place the stalks into the crisp drawer of the freezer. This will help keep the rhubarb crisp thanks to the air circulation.

Meanwhile, experts have shared other methods for keeping rhubarb just as fresh.

Glass of water

Laura Lindsey, who is a pastry chef at Tullibee and Hewing Hotel in the US, told Real Simple placing rhubarb upright into a glass of water can help prolong them.

You can place the glass with the rhubarb by covering it with cling film and storing it in the fridge.

Damp paper towel

Another storage method is to put the stalks into a damp paper towel and wrap them in a plastic bag.

This should help keep the rhubarb in your for up to three to four weeks in your refrigerator.
