Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris used Donald Trump’s own words to undermine her Republican opponent’s tech- and truth-deficient interview with Elon Musk on X.
When Florida governor Ron DeSantis launched his presidential primary bid against Trump on X in May 2023, the 78-year-old former president made fun of the technical glitches that delayed the start of his opponent’s ill-fated event by nearly 30 minutes.
“Wow! The DeSanctus TWITTER launch is a DISASTER!” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform. “His whole campaign will be a disaster. WATCH!”
DeSantis ended his flailing campaign in January.
When Trump’s appearance on X Monday night aired more than 40 minutes behind schedule, screenshots indicate Harris’ campaign reposted that same message on Truth Social.
Nevertheless, Musk declared victory on X, claiming Tuesday morning that his site indicated a billion people experienced or engaged with his interview with Trump once it was made available.
CNN reported that Trump made at least 20 false statements during that campaign event with Musk, who “fully” endorsed Trump last month.
Harris’ campaign released a statement mocking “whatever that was” after Musk’s conversation with Trump ended.
“Trump’s entire campaign is in service of people like Elon Musk and himself— self-obsessed rich guys who will sell out the middle class and who cannot run a livestream in 2024,” her team posted on X.
Musk blamed the flawed livestream on a “massive” cyber attack that overwhelmed X’s systems.
Trump boasted Tuesday that the event was a success.
“I spent 2 1/2 hours last night talking to Elon, a fantastic guy, getting all-time record Views/hits, and all the Fake News wants to report is that the servers crashed (because of the tremendous volume!), and the show opened a little late,” he posted on Truth Social. “What they should be reporting was the incredible number of people that were listening. I absolutely HATE the Fake News Media. So bad for our Country!”
