Kamala Harris campaign office in Arizona shot up

A Kamala Harris campaign office was shot at in the crucial battleground state of Arizona, according to authorities.

The Arizona Democratic Party office in Tempe, which is shared by the Harris campaign along with national and local campaigns, had multiple bullet holes in the door and windows when workers arrived on Monday morning.

No one was in the building when the shots were fired, according to police. Investigators suspect the shooting happened shortly after midnight on Monday.

“We are grateful to Tempe Police for coming quickly to the scene and are fortunate no one was present or injured,” said Arizona Democratic Party coordinated campaign manager Sean McEnerney.

The same office, located in a strip mall, was also shot with a BB or pellet gun on Sept. 16, local ABC affiliate KNXV reported. No suspects have been arrested or identified in either shooting.

“We are working with law enforcement to ensure this threat is taken seriously and that our staff members are safe while they’re at work,” Arizona Democratic Party chair Yolanda Bejarano told KNXV. “It’s extremely sad that the Arizona Democratic Party has become the target of violence — it’s not who we are as Arizonans or Americans.”

Harris was scheduled to speak Friday in Arizona on the U.S.-Mexico border to counter Donald Trump’s attacks on her immigration record.

Arizona is considered one of seven battleground states that will likely decide the 2024 presidential election, along with Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina, Michigan, Nevada and Wisconsin. Joe Biden carried the state in 2020, the first time a Democratic presidential candidate has won there since Bill Clinton in 1996 — and the second time since Harry Truman in 1948.
