June’s full moon is known as the strawberry moon: For millennia, people across the world, including Native Americans in the eastern and central U.S., named the moons after nature’s cues. Each full moon has its own name, according to the Farmer’s Almanac.
Native American Algonquin tribes inhabiting the northeastern U.S. – along with the Ojibwe, Dakota and Lakota peoples – have used the strawberry moon to mark the time for gathering ripened June-bearing strawberries, the almanac said.
