Jose Mourinho sent off against Man Utd during mass protests as former boss erupts

Jose Mourinho was shown a red card during Fenerbahce’s Europa League clash with Manchester United on Thursday evening.

The Portuguese boss was left when referee Clement Turpin opted not to award his side a penalty after Bright Osayi-Samuel appeared to have been brought down by Manuel Ugarte as he looked to cut the ball back onto his left foot.

Protests from the Fenerbahce players were waved away though, with Mourinho left fuming by the decision.

VAR wasted no time in reviewing the coming-together, with replays showing that Ugarte had made very little contact with Osayi-Samuel’s – and certainly not enough to justify the ex-QPR star hitting the deck so theatrically.

However, Mourinho did not feel the same way. After the initial challenge, he came charging out of his technical area to confront the fourth official on why Turpin did not point to the spot and called for a VAR review.

He was then asked to return to his box by the official, but the request fell on deaf ears as Mourinho was left furious by the call.
