Jon Stewart will miss his weekly hosting gig of “The Daily Show” after testing positive for COVID-19.
On Monday, the show announced the news that Stewart “recently tested positive for Covid-19, therefore he will not be hosting this week and will return on Monday, August 12.”
Correspondent Michael Kosta will instead host the program all week. Scheduled guests include author Roxane Gay, comedian Hannah Berner and “The Hangover” star Ed Helms — who’s also a former “Daily Show” correspondent.
Stewart returned to “The Daily Show” in February, eight years after leaving his longtime post as host. In a new deal struck with Comedy Central, he is presiding over the Monday program through the November election and serves as full-time executive producer.
The 61-year-old New York City native is not the only late night host who has been sidelined by the coronavirus in recent months.
Just last month, Whoopi Goldberg missed a few days of work in the moderator seat at “The View” due to COVID-19. The 68-year-old EGOT winner reportedly had three previous bouts with the illness.
Late last year, Stephen Colbert had to cancel a week of “The Late Show” after testing positive for the virus.
