What is the John Lewis 2019 Christmas advert song?

The two minute 30 second festive advert called Excitable Edgar, is set to a cover of the iconic song Can’t fight this feeling by REO Speedwagon.

The 1984 classic tune remained at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart for three consecutive weeks from March 9 to March 23, 1985.

Can’t Fight this Feeling also appears on REO Speedwagon’s 1984 album Wheels Are Turnin’.

Who sings the song for the John Lewis Christmas advert?

Can’t Fight this Feeling has been re-recorded by Dan Smith from the band Bastille.

The 33-year-old singer is an English singer, songwriter, record producer as well as the founder and front man of Bastille.

The band formed in 2010 and gained wide popularity in 2013 when they released Pompeii which features on their album Bad Blood.

Bastille then went on to release their second album Wild World in September 2016, followed by their third in June 2019, called Doom Days.

She presents Edgar with the perfect gift of a delicious Christmas pudding.

This way, he can play a unique role in the Christmas feast by setting the dessert alight for everyone to enjoy.

Excitable Edgar is the first ever joint campaign between John Lewis & Partners and Waitrose & Partners.

Partner and Customer Director, John Lewis & Partners, Craig Inglis said: “I’m delighted our two brands have come together for this year’s Christmas campaign.

“It started from a spark of an idea – a little dragon’s excitement about Christmas – and became the story of how someone goes the extra mile for their best friend to give just the right gift.

“It’s a funny, heart-warming story that will resonate with our customers as they seek out the perfect gifts for their loved ones this Christmas.”

Last year, the John Lewis advert centred around the life of singer Sir Elton John and how he got his first piano on Christmas Day when he was a little boy.

So far, we have seen adverts from the likes of Asda with Kevin the Carrot and the Leafy Blinders, Asda following one girl and her brother who deliver festive magic to their neighbourhood and Walkers with Mariah Carey singing All I Want for Christmas is You.

John Lewis and Waitrose shared the advert on their social media channels first thing this morning with the hashtags #WeArePartners and #ExcitableEdgar.

The advert will first air on television during ITV’s The X Factor: Celebrity on Saturday, November 16.
