“The President was clearly describing driving over the bridge while commuting between Delaware and D.C. during his 36-year Senate career,” White House spokesperson Robyn Patterson said.
Biden’s history of embellishing personal stories, particularly in relation to national disasters, has been a subject of attention. He falsely claimed to have been at Ground Zero the day after the September 11 attacks despite his book stating he was in Washington on September 12.
He has also inaccurately stated he “watched” a Pittsburgh bridge collapse, but arrived at the scene hours after the incident.
Search and rescue efforts are ongoing for six individuals missing since the Baltimore bridge collapse. All missing persons were believed to be construction workers from a crew patching potholes on the roadway at the time of the incident.
