A viral video clip currently circulating the internet shows a seemingly troubled Joe Biden as he struggles to walk alongside first lady Jill Biden on the beach.
The footage shows the departing US president and his wife strolling along the sands of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, with Secret Service agents in attendance during their weekend getaway.
At 81 years old, Biden is observed labouring with each step through the sand, at times looking seconds away from falling. The first lady then reaches for his arm, providing support to steady him.
Out of frame, reporters question what Biden plans to say to Donald Trump when the president-elect makes his White House visit on Wednesday, an established post-election tradition symbolising the peaceful power transition.
Commenting on the video clip, Benny Johnson, a podcast host, playfully remarked on X: “Joe Biden’s latest opponent: Sand”. The video was called “Brutal to watch” by another observer.
Steve Cortes, founder of the League of American Workers, pointedly expressed: “Joe Biden can’t walk on sand. This man is the President for the next 71 days.”
Following his 2020 defeat to Biden, Trump secured a decisive victory over Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris last week.
Trump has made history as the first former president to regain power in a non-consecutive term since Grover Cleveland’s White House win in the 1892 election.
According to the White House, Biden extended congratulations to Trump in a phone call last Wednesday and invited him to a meeting in the Oval Office, scheduled for 11am on Wednesday.
In a speech delivered on Thursday, Biden revealed that he assured Trump “that I would direct my entire administration to work with his team to ensure a peaceful and orderly transition. That’s what the American people deserve.”
When questioned about Trump as he departed church in Rehoboth Beach on Saturday, Biden simply stated, “I’m going to see him on Wednesday”.
