Jets RT Morgan Moses could miss a couple of weeks after knee injury vs. Patriots: source

It appears Jets right tackle Morgan Moses avoided a severe injury.

Moses suffered a knee injury during the Jets’ 24-3 victory over the Patriots on Thursday night and did not return. It is unlikely Moses will need surgery, but it is likely the 11-year veteran will miss at least a couple of weeks, according to sources.

On Friday, Jets coach Robert Saleh didn’t comment on the severity of the injury.

“You guys know I’ve been wrong a million times,” Saleh said.

Rookie first-round pick Olu Fashanu played 14 snaps for Moses and didn’t commit a penalty or allow a sack. The Jets selected Fashanu in April’s draft to be their left tackle for the future.

They also drafted Fashanu because the Jets offensive line has been ravaged by injuries the last couple of seasons. In 2022, 11 different players started games on the offensive line. Last season, Gang Green used 14 different offensive line combinations in 17 games, which led the league.

During training camp, the Jets cross-trained Fashanu at both right and left tackle.

“He did a good job,” Saleh said about Fashanu’s play against the Patriots. “He played the right side and jumped in there. It was kind of a luxury when Mo got hurt. You’re sending out a first-round pick. He did good. He’s been getting a lot of reps in practice.

“Obviously, with the plans that we have for those two tackles and again he’s another guy that we’re looking forward to seeing getting better and better every week.”

In other injury news, Jets linebacker and captain C.J. Mosley did not play against the Patriots after injuring his right big toe in Week 2 against the Titans. Mosley participated in pregame workouts, but with the short week and with it being so early in the season, the Jets decided it was best to keep him out and play Jamien Sherwood in his place in nickel packages.

With 10 days before the Jets next game, Mosley is on track to play in Week 4 against the Broncos.

“Yeah, confident that he’ll be back for the Denver game,” Saleh said. “We’ll see once we get back on Monday, Tuesday, how he is feeling Wednesday, but I feel like if this was later in the year, got to have a game, and he would have mustered up the energy, not the energy, but been able to go, but it wasn’t worth it to make such a small injury worse. In the grand scheme of things probably wasn’t worth it.”
