Jessica Simpson is shutting down claims that she’s drinking again after six years of sobriety.
The “Irresistible” singer clapped back at an online troll, who questioned her sobriety under a post about her 11-year-old son Ace Johnson’s birthday.
Simpson wrote back to a user who commented “stopping drinking.”
“I haven’t wanted or touched alcohol since October 2017 and it has been the best decision I’ve made for myself and for my family. Thank you for your concern, but you have me very misunderstood. Sending love your way.”
This isn’t the first time the 44 year old has addressed social media comments about her appearance. In 2022, Simpson released a video sharing how the constant chatter has affected her.
“As much as I have learned to block out destructive noise…people’s comments and judgments can still hurt deeply with their incessant nagging, ‘you will never be good enough,’” she explained in a November 2022 Instagram post.
The “Dukes of Hazzard” star reflected on why she made the decision to quit alcohol in a 2021 Instagram post. “I had so much self discovery to unlock and explore. I knew in this very moment I would allow myself to take back my light, show victory over my internal battle of self respect, and brave this world with piercing clarity.”
In her 2020 memoir, “Open Book,” Simpson revealed that when she found herself too drunk to help her kids get into their costumes on Halloween night, she knew something had to change. “I was terrified of letting them see me in that shape,” she recalled in the bestseller. “I am ashamed to say that I don’t know who got them into their costumes that night.”
“I need to stop,” she wrote reflecting on that night. “Something’s got to stop. And if it’s alcohol that’s doing this and making things worse, then I quit.”
