Jay Slater's family warned over 'unprecedented' investigation after major interference

The family of Jay Slater have been warned over the “unprecedented” investigation into the teenager’s death as internet sleuths have caused so much interference.

The British tourist was found dead last week after he went missing nearly a month earlier, after attending a rave while on holiday in the mountainous region of Masca, Tenerife

According to reports, amateur detectives are putting all their efforts into getting access to the teenager’s autopsy.

It comes as Jay’s family and friends are still in Tenerife, awaiting the return of his body to Lancashire.

His mother Debbie Duncan, father Warren Slater, and brother Zak are now preparing for the heartbreaking journey back to the UK.

However, amateur sleuths have been attempting to interfere with the process of bringing Jay’s body home and are searching online for autopsy results.

A source close to the family told The Sun last week: “Taking Jay’s body back will be the hardest journey of their lives. But they know it’s something they have to do.

“Their focus and aim is to give Jay the most fitting send-off possible and to celebrate and remember his life.”

Now, Matthew Searle, CEO of LBT Global, the spokesman for the family, warned that “armchair detectives” and “so-called experts” had been “making a name for themselves” since the teen’s disappearance.

Mr Searle told the BBC: “If someone is missing, what parents will do is sit there and try to find every bit of information online, and there’s been all this stuff that’s been so hurtful for them.

“But as well as the parents, all this has a huge impact on the investigation. It’s been unprecedented, and I think it has to stop.

“This behaviour is just not fair for the authorities or practitioners like ourselves, but most of all it’s not fair for the families who are going through the worst time ever.”

He said: “I have been in this job for over 20 years and I have worked on thousands of cases and I have never seen anything like this level.

“It seems like it’s ramped up recently and it’s something I feel passionately about, something I am going to be talking to the Home Secretary about in the coming weeks.”

Last week Jay’s family left tributes on the dirt track not far from the perilous ravine where his body was found. Bouquets of blue and white flowers were left with heartfelt messages from mum Debbie Duncan, as well as Jay’s father Warren Slater and older brother Zak.

In a note accompanying some flowers, Debbie wrote: “To my beautiful boy, I am so sorry we never found you. I miss you so much. You will be forever young and forever missed. Mum xxx”.
