Jay Slater's dad reveals what really happened during Tenerife search for son

Jay Slater‘s dad has started his own TikTok account to share his thoughts about what happened in the search for his son in Tenerife.

Warren Slater called on social media users to stop adding to online conspiracy theories surrounding his son’s death.

In an online appeal, Mr Slater said Jay was a news story but to his parents he was “our son, our baby”. He asked for time to grieve and to allow Jay “to rest in peace”.

Jay’s body was found in a ravine in Rural de Teno park in Tenerife on July 15 after the apprentice bricklayer was reported missing on June 17.

A post-mortem examination found Jay, 19, died of traumatic haed injuries consistent with a fall from height. He had been trying to walk back to his accommodation in Los Cristianos on foot after deciding not to wait for a bus.

The latest post on Mr Slater’s TikTok account has been viewed more than 50,000 times. It includes Mr Slater saying keys he found in the search for his son didn’t belong to him, but were those of a TikTok sleuth.

Warren said: “Just to show a video to confirm this is my account. The keys I found do belong to the Down the Rapids guy [a TikTok sleuth]. I found them at the end of the path.”

Down the Rapids had travelled to the Spanish island ostensibly to help with the missing persons case.

This latest TikTok video came after a previous clip posted on the same account appeared to send online sleuths into overdrive again.

In that video, Mr Slater stands on the steps of the AirBnB apartment where Jay stayed before he went missing. Mr Slater tries retracing Jay’s last steps based on witness accounts claiming the youngster left a path and headed into the mountains.

Mr Slater can be heard in the clip, saying: “They said that he has walked up the hill… Seriously? I think there’s a lot of bull**** going on. Truthfully, can anybody see a shortcut back to Los Cristianos?”

Jay’s dad then posted another video after some on the platform were sent into a frenzy.

Mr Slater announced via TikTok: “I haven’t been back to Tenerife ever since I came back from looking for my son.

“The videos that I’ve been posting are just documentation of what I was up to, where I was searching, things I was looking at while I while I was out there and that’s it.”
