Police in Tenerife have released a video following the discovery of a body in the search for missing British teenager Jay Slater.
While the body has not been formally identified, the human remains were found along with Jay’s “possessions and clothes,” according to the missing persons charity LBT Global believed to be speaking on behalf of Jay’s family.
The charity said: ” LBT Global is saddened to announce that a body found in Tenerife does look to be that of Jay Slater. It is understood the body was found close to the site of his mobile phone’s last location.
“A post-mortem examination and forensic enquiries will follow. LBT Global are supporting the family at this distressing time and ask for everyone to afford them space and privacy to come to terms with the news.”
Although the official search for Jay Slater was called off last month, the teen’s family and mountain rescue continued to search the remote Masca area which is known for deep ravines and inaccessible terrain.
In the video, rescuers can be seen scaling near-vertical terrain while wearing helmets. At one point crew is lifted out of the area by helicopter. The body found in the search is also believed to have been removed by helicopter.
