Jay Slater search update as Brit climber reveals new details of his efforts to find him

A British Tiktok climber who has flown to Tenerife to help find teenager Jay Slater has vowed not to give up his search.

Paul Arnott paid £400 to fly out to the Spanish resort island last Saturday to help find the 19-year-old, who was last heard from early on June 17.

An extensive search has been taking place in a bid to find Jay, an apprentice bricklayer from Lancashire, who was walking back to his accommodation after spending the night with people he had met at a music festival on the island.

On Sunday morning, police on the island reportedly called off their search for the teenager, although the investigation is reported to remain open.

In a post on his Down The Rapids account on Sunday, Mr Arnott said he would continue to search for Jay – despite authorities ending their own efforts.

He wrote: “I’m possibly going to move the search over to another area, either tomorrow (Monday) or this evening (Sunday) but I will tell you about that later.”

Speaking to the Daily Mail earlier this week, Mr Arnott said the search to find Jay had been ‘exhausting’ for him.

However, he added: “It’s been really hard work but I’m not giving up until we find Jay.”

Helicopters, drones and search dogs were deployed to find the apprentice bricklayer.

On Friday, police on the island had appealed for volunteer associations, such as firefighters and individual volunteers who are experts in rugged terrain to assist in a “busqueda masiva” – massive search – on Saturday.

Jay’s mother, Debbie Duncan, is on the island and has said the family will use money from a GoFundMe page – which has raised more than £44,000 – to pay for a private search.
