Jay Slater GoFundMe update as family bids to fly more loved ones to Tenerife

The search for missing teenager Jay Slater shows no signs of slowing down, despite search and rescue teams entering their twelfth day. Meanwhile, the hunt is on for two mystery men Jay is believed to have spent some time with before going missing.

In his family’s latest desperate attempt to find the much-loved 19-year-old, Jay’s mum Debbie Duncan has revealed she is in talks with GoFundMe over releasing some of the money a crowdfunder has raised, in order to aid the search.

The GoFundMe page, set up by Lucy Mae Law – thought to be the last person to speak to Jay – has accrued almost £39,000.Ms Duncan wants to draw on some of those funds to help find her son.

Writing online, she said: “We are currently working with GoFundMe to withdraw part of the funds, which are being safely held. I wanted to share that these funds will be used to support the mountain rescue teams who are tirelessly searching for Jay.

“Additionally, since our stay in Tenerife needs to be extended, we will also use the funds to cover accommodation and food expenses.

“I’m surrounded by wonderful people who are by my side, but far from their loved ones, so we’ll also be using part of these funds to fly them to Tenerife so we can support each other during these dark times.”

According to Ms Law’s GoFundMe post, Jay, from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, on June 17 she “woke up to a phone call off Jay at 8.30am saying ‘he was lost in the mountains, he wasn’t aware of his surroundings, he desperately needed a drink & his phone was on 1%’.”

Jay had flown to the NRG music festival on the island with two friends prior to going missing. His last known location is the Rural de Teno park on the north west of the island.

Now, some in Tenerife are searching for two men, believed to be aged between 30 and 40, that Jay is thought to have seen prior to going missing. According to Ms Law, he went to their apartment which “was miles away from civilisation and in a very secluded location”.

Ex-detective Mark Williams-Thomas, told reporters he has since learned the name of one of the individuals, and has a picture of the other. He told the M.E.N: “There are two key people that we have not yet spoken to, and these are the two men that took Jay back to that holiday rental in the hills. Those two men have spoken to the police – but are now back in England.”
