Jason Day sets wild target for 2025 after PGA Tour resurgence

Jason Day is setting his sights on major championship triumphs in 2025 following a resurgence in form over recent seasons. Once the world’s top golfer after clinching the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits in 2015, Day’s career was hampered by injuries and health issues, including vertigo episodes that saw him collapse mid-game.

However, after enduring a winless period from 2018-23, Day broke the drought with a victory at the AT&T Byron Nelson last year. With four top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour and a ninth-place at the Olympics, the 37 year old feels he’s inching back to his best.

As he prepares for a competitive outing in Australia this Thursday, Day is optimistic about capturing more titles in 2025, eyeing both major wins and triumphs in the PGA Tour’s premier events. Despite nearly a decade since his last major victory, Day remains focused on completing the grand slam set, stating: “I feel good about my game,” and outlining his ambitions: “A goal [for 2025] is to try and win a major and another goal is to win an elevated [PGA Tour] event.”

Day has expressed his grand aspirations, claiming: “The goal for me has always been trying to win all four [majors]. I know I definitely have the game to win majors. It’s just being able to be healthy first and foremost, and then have the swing and the technique to back it up.”

He continued, confidently stating, “I know that on my day, I’m the best putter in the world and my short game is great. I just need the ball striking to match that. If I can do that, then I definitely have a shot at winning more majors than just my first one.”

Now settled in the United States, Day is gearing up for his first competitive start in Australia since 2017 at the Australian PGA Championship held at Royal Queensland Golf Club.

His passion for a homegrown victory is clear as he shared, “I’ve always wanted to win in Australia and I haven’t won as a professional,”

The Queenslander watched other golf greats triumph in his native land and yearns to follow suit, saying, “I’ve seen Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy come down and win Australian Opens. It’d be nice for me to do that, especially in Brisbane, where I grew up playing some tournaments at Royal Queensland.”

Day is set to take centre stage in the marquee group for the opening two rounds, playing alongside 2022 Open champion Cam Smith and the reigning Australian PGA champion Min Woo Lee.
