Jaguar Land Rover accelerates new security rollout to battle keyless car thefts

Jaguar Land Rover has accelerated its roll-out of security updates to tackle a spate of keyless car thefts across the UK.

Vehicles manufactured as far back as 2018 are eligible for updates including models which are out of warranty.

The new software promises to bring older vehicles up to modern security levels in a bid to tackle crime.

The new updates will be provided free of charge across its range of Range Rover, Defender, Discovery and Jaguar vehicles.

So far around 160,000 vehicles have received the update as part of a £15million investment.

Patrick McGillycuddy, Managing Director of JLR UK promised the new tools would provide the “highest levels of protection”.

He explained: “We understand that being a victim of car crime is deeply distressing so we are working hard to mitigate this risk for our clients wherever we can.

“Our security update initiative directly and positively combats known methods of thefts used in the UK today.

“I am personally committed to providing the highest levels of protection as possible, to as many clients as we can; our team has grown to match the scale of this task and we are actively seeking clients who may have missed our correspondence or purchased from outside our network.”

They said this was “namely the targeted thefts of vehicles including Range Rovers”.

The brand have confirmed dedicated client care specialists are up 26 percent to facilitate the completion of updates on vehicles.

JLR have called on owners who have not had the updates introduced to get in touch with garages as soon as possible

Patrick stressed: “We urge owners of models from 2018 and later to contact their preferred retailer for a security consultation as soon as possible, to understand their specific options, at their earliest opportunity.”
