Just what are all the MPs up to since Parliament was suspended?
Well, Tory MP Jacob Rees-Mogg is filling his time with his favourite recreational activity: watching Peppa Pig .
“I am the most hopeless and obedient father,” says dad-of-six Jacob. “I do what my children tell me. That is relaxation.”
Before heading out to the launch of Michael Ashcroft’s biography Jacob’s Ladder, the politician watched a traumatic episode where “poor old Daddy Pig got frightened because he went on a zip wire”.
Sounds remarkably familiar…
“I know most of the Thomas the Tank Engine stories off by heart,” adds Jacob, who was at pains to point out he prefers Dallas and Dynasty when allowed control of his own TV remote.
“I thought JR was the bees knees,” he says. “He was the cat’s pyjamas.”
Speaking of pyjamas, Jacob looked comfortable enough to be wearing some while reclining in Parliament last week, and boasts he was “very fond” of becoming a meme – though, he admits: “The one of the man stroking me was a little bit odd.”
After reports claimed he could now be an unlikely sex symbol – or, as someone went as far to suggest to him at the party, a “gay icon” – Jacob quips: “I would not have expected to have become that, I must confess.”
Given his record for opposing same sex marriage, it’s almost certain he isn’t.
