In order to make your appliance last much longer, the experts at RGBDirect, have shared which clothing items should never enter the drum.
According to the company, shoes should never enter a wash cycle because they can cause “damage to both the shoes and the machine”.
The expert said: “The tumbling action can scratch the washing machine’s drum, and the shoes themselves may lose their shape or cause imbalances, potentially leading to loud vibrations during the spin cycle.”
Instead, it is recommended to clean shoes such as trainers by hand, using soapy water along with a brush.
If you must put them into the machine because they are too dirty, make sure to put each shoe in its own pillowcase, securing it.
Another item which cannot be put in the appliance is pet beds, which can get smelly, but it isn’t advised to wash them in the machine if they have loose filling.
The pros explained: “Pet beds that have a loose filling like foam beads or shredded foam should never be washed in a machine.
“The filling can clump together, causing imbalance and potentially damaging the washing machine’s motor.
“Additionally, pet hair and fur can clog the machine’s filter and drainage system.”
Britons should also be extremely careful when washing silk items, according to Deyan Dimitrov, CEO of Laundryheap.
This is silk is extremely delicate and high temperatures and fast spin cycles can cause the fabric to tear.
Deyan said: “You may also run the risk of staining other clothes in your washing load, as dyes from coloured skills can often run onto other fabrics.”
Similarly, items such as underwear may also tear or even lose their shape or stain other clothing during a quick washing cycle.
It is also important to be mindful before placing any stuffed toys in the machine as some delicate older fabrics may disintegrate.
Also, make sure it doesn’t have any batteries or electric components as it can damage the washer, and the item itself.
