AN IPHONE manufacturer has signed a groundbreaking deal with an iconic car brand to create a sporty EV set to release next year.

Taiwanese electric vehicle start-up Foxtron, whose parent company produces iPhones, scored the deal with Japanese car giant Mitsubishi.

Mitsubishi said that along with Foxtron they would “proceed with discussions towards a definitive agreement”.

The incredible new car will be sold in Australia and New Zealand.

Foxtron is partly owned by Foxconn, also known as Hon Hai, a technology firm that makes apple products.

They are one of a growing number of tech companies that are using their knowledge of electronics and communications to break into the EV market.

Foxtron is an extraordinary joint venture between Hon Hai and Taiwan’s Yulon Motor Co.

It was speculated earlier in 2025 that Hon Hai could make a bid for Mitsubishi’s alliance partner Nissan Motor Co, after the possible merger between Nissan and Honda collapsed.

Mitsubishi will announce full-year financial results on Thursday.

The two firms said that the Foxtron-developed EV will be produced by Yulon.

It will be introduced in Oceania in the latter half of 2026.

Japanese car giants like Mitsubishi have recently been stepping up efforts to compete in the EV segment as they contend with soaring competition from Chinese rivals.

Mitsubishi has set a target of having all of its product lineup be either EVs or hybrids by 2035.

Foxtron showcased a sleek EV hatchback in January called the Model B.

And the firm has already listed 11 vehicle models on its website, including its Model T bus, Model V pickup truck, Model N van, its Model B, and its luxury flagship Model E sedan.

In the world of EVs, Ferrari made a bombshell announcement on Tuesday.

The car giant revealed the launch date for its first ever electric vehicle – after having “prepared for years”.

Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna made the bombshell announcement at a financial meeting, saying that the car would be unveiled in three steps.

It also comes after Britain’s most beloved car was speculated to be reborn as an electric vehicle after it was axed two years ago.

The iconic motor is believed to be getting a much-needed upgrade to fit in with the EV revolution.
