Inside the world’s cheapest hotel with rooms the same price as a Freddo

The cost of a hotel is one of the important things to get right when planning a trip away.

Some like to splurge on the best accommodation available while others look for bargains.

But you won’t find a better offer than 31p a night at the Faridpur Hotel in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh.

Floating on the river Buriganga, the hotel has 48 rooms, ranging from the most basic option to the most expensive private stays – which will set you back a hefty €1.50 (£1.26) a night.

This also gives visitors purified water, clean toilets, and separate beds on a self-catering basis.

The rooms are very basic with beds lining the sides of a narrow aisle.

Faridpur Hotel is very popular with tourists as it enables them to mix with locals and learn more about Dhaka.

Speaking to the Daily Mail in 2016, the hotel’s owner Muhammad Mustafa Miyan said: “We have anywhere around 40 guests at a time in our hotel and they stay for as long as three months.

“It is cheap so people who come from small towns and villages for their work and business stay here.

“For a nominal price, they get purified water, clean toilets [and] separate beds. And we also provide our customers with small lockers to keep their valuable things. But food is not provided.”

Dhaka is one of the most congested cities in the world with 21 million people living there. This works out at over 100,00 people per square mile.
