A new map has revealed the favourite holiday destination of every single country across the globe, and there are two clear winners.
Cloudwards analysed Google search data and keywords related to summer travel, including searches made in English and in the native language of each respective country, and discovered that London and Dubai are the world’s joint-favourite places to go.
The map has supplemented country names for the places their residents most want to visit this summer. London and Dubai came first for 10 countries, including Norway, Iceland, Ireland, Spain, Pakistan, Qatar, and Mauritius.
Across the pond, people in the Americas want to visit Cancun and Las Vegas the most. Miami also made the number two spot on the list worldwide and took the number one spot for eight countries, including Guatemala, Panama and Peru.
Portugal, Hungary, and the Czech Republic all have Barcelona at the top of their summer 2024 bucket list, making it third on the list globally.
Buenos Aires, a favourite amongst people in neighbouring Paraguay and Uruguay, came in fourth place, and Tokyo and Toronto placed joint fifth.
People in Jamaica and the Dominican Republic are most eager to go to Toronto, whereas Tokyo is the favourite among those in Thailand and Singapore.
The study found that city breaks, such as London, Tokyo, and Pari, and beach holidays, such as Dubai, Miami, and Buenos Aires, are equally popular.
There was also a huge range in terms of how far people are willing to travel to their dream destination. For example, Australians favour Bali, whereas people from the UK are willing to brave the long-haul flight to Dubai.
Despite London and Dubai being the clear winners, there are also more up-and-coming locations for those with different interests.
Zanzibar and Bali were found to appeal to those looking for quiet escapes surrounded by nature, as opposed to the cityscapes of the joint winners.
Over in the US, people are most attracted to Cancun and London, despite being incredibly different. Americans also enjoy travelling domestically, for example to Las Vegas, Boston, and Chicago – more affordable options than flying internationally.
