'I'm a used car dealer – this lesser-known luxury car offers cool features for £750'

A used car dealer has recommended an unusual luxury car that offers features not found on high-end Bentleys and Rolls Royces but is available for under £1,000.

Matt Goodwin is a used car dealer who runs the YouTube channel High Peak Autos, regularly posting videos in which he shows a wide range of interesting pre-owned models that he has bought for his forecourt.

In a recent video, Matt spends £750 on a 2007 Citroen C6, the company’s flagship luxury model that offered unusual styling similar to the DS of the 1950s and 60s.

He explained: “Oh, that’s so weird. I’m genuinely really excited about this. I know it’s only £750, but it’s just so odd. Why did Citroen ever make such a car? It was like their interpretation of a luxury car, but also a modern interpretation of the old DS.

“Predictably, it is crying out for a new set of number plates and a headlamp buff, which is always music to my ears. But it’s quite a tidy car for something with 120,000 miles and is 18 years old.”

Sold from 2006 to 2012, the Citroen C6 was the French car brand’s most luxurious model, rivaling more conventional premium models like the Audi A6 and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

The C6 offered particularly unconventional sleek styling, which reflected previous flagship models including the DS and CX, in addition to lavish levels of standard equipment. This included the company’s famous hydropneumatic air and liquid suspension, allowing it to glide effortlessly over potholes and the ride height to be adjusted.

Whilst Matt was able to pick up an example of the unusual luxury car for just £750, used car buyers should give themselves a budget of around £2,500 for a clean example.

Getting inside the car for the first time, Matt highlighted that the interior is particularly clean given the price, with the C6 offering a surprising amount of space for valuables.

He added: “We’ve got double glazed windows, I believe, however there is some frost inside there. Look at this for storage, some over-engineered storage in the doors.

“It’s very clean, we’ve got nice rubber mats, it smells nice and clean. I’m really impressed with this. Let’s get to the front. What have we got? More strange door compartments, more storage between the seats, and there’s cigarette lighters everywhere.”

Taking to the roads, the car dealer highlighted that the £750 Citroen was not without its faults, but still offered a particularly smooth ride and a surprising amount of power.

He continued: “The steering is very noisy, but hopefully that’s just low [hydraulic] fluid. So far it’s very smooth. So what needs doing to it so far? Well, the wheels need refurbishing, they’ll need a very good buff. In addition to that, it’ll need some new plates, a service, and an MOT.

“I’ll give it a service, get the mechanic to fit some new brake discs and suspension components, and while it’s down there, I’ll get them to sort the steering out as well, because it’s protesting a little bit too much. It’s got some power though, 200bhp, and it sounds good actually.”
