'I'm a gardening guru – foolproof hack helps clear fallen leaves in seconds'

Sick of filling up bags and bags of fallen leaves? It can feel like a never-ending task – especially if you keep running out of room to store the tree debris.

Thankfully though, a DIY fan has shared an easy way to reduce the volume of leaves in seconds. This should help you to fit many more of them in your bins.

It may also help them to break down more quickly if you’re looking to use the leaves as compost. So how do you do it?

Ben, who has more than 62,000 followers on his TikTok channel advised: “Here’s a trick to dispose of leaves and reduce the size for bagging. A weed wacker will break them into smaller pieces so they take up less space.”

In the informational video, Ben is seen raking a load of leaves into a bin. It doesn’t take long for them to start spilling out of the container.

So to reduce them in size, the gardening guru gets the weed wacker tool and plunges it into the bin. In a matter of seconds, the leaves dramatically reduce in size. It’s as easy as that!

If you don’t have one of the garden tools, don’t fret. Recently, Ben posted another way to deal with an excess of fallen leaves. This time, you’ll need nothing but a lawnmower.

In a previous video, Ben said: “Instead of raking leaves into bags, an easy way to get rid of them is to mulch them with a lawn mower. This is beneficial to your yard because it puts nutrients back into the lawn, which is going to make it thrive.”

People seemed to be very appreciative of the advice – as the clip amassed 800 likes and plenty of positive comments. One responder gushed: “I always used this method and collect the crush leaf to do compost. It works great.”

A second wrote: “So true, nature put those leaves there for a reason.” And a third added: “Natural fertiliser for your lawn.”

If you are trying this tip, be careful you’re not tackling too many leaves at the same time. This could end up doing more harm than good.

Instead, try keeping your layer of mulch to two to four inches. It’s good to be able to see the grass blades peeking through, as these suggests they won’t get suffocated.

So there you have it – two easy ways to deal with fallen leaves in a matter of minutes.
