‘I’m a car mechanic – stop using this fluid in your petrol and diesel car’

Winter screenwash contains higher levels of Anti-Freezing Agents which protect vital parts and stop cars from becoming damaged.

Scotty suggested road users should ensure they use the winter solution as much as they can to prevent being caught out this Autumn,

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Scotty said: “Today I’m going to show you why you want to use the winter windshield fluid even in the summer.

“It’s always best to use the ones that say protect the minus 20… If you forget when winter comes, water does a nasty thing when it freezes. It expands.

“It can crack your windshield wiper motor that’s hiding in there, that costs money. It can crack the lines that feed it and it can even crack your little squirter nozzles.

“So if you’re like me, use the winter stuff even in the summer. Then when winter comes you don’t have to remember to change it.”

According to experts at Walkers Automotive, cracks will usually cause the fluid to leak.

However, a cracked washer fluid tank usually can’t be repaired meaning motorists will have to splash out for a replacement.

This could be a major blow to cash-strapped road users who could be hit with a sizeable bull towards the end of the year.

Motorists were quick to praise Scotty for the vital tip while some admitted to having been impacted by the issue in the past.

@Tonybatista1928 said: “I usually run my summer washer fluid out in the fall, then replace with the winter fluid.”

@robertnimmo5954 added: “Learned this the hard way years ago.”

@jbzzey explained: “That’s why the windshield washer hoses broke on one of my old cars.”
