'I went for a Sunday roast and the chef's secret to crispy potatoes was heavenly'

Nothing beats a good Sunday roast and we headed to a restaurant which has recently added the staple to its food menu. Boxcar Bar & Grill is situated in the capital and is nestled between Marylebone and Marble Arch.

The new Sunday Roast menu features a selection of monthly specials in addition to classic favourites.

Boxcar has a selection of British meats and seasonal produce on offer, great for heading enjoying with family and friends where there is something for everyone.

The restaurant menu puts a fresh spin on the traditional Sunday roast by including a different seasonal special each month.

This month it saw the bar and grill kick off with a pork belly roast which I got to enjoy and was certainly a treat.

The pork had plenty of crunch with the crackling and enough flavour that you can’t help but want more once you’re finished. However, the dish which is served with roast potatoes is something that is not to be missed.

The potatoes were crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle thanks to one secret ingredient of beef fat elevating the ingredient to another level.

Even better, all of the items on the menu are from local produce making it a great destination for food lovers.

Inside the restaurant, it has a vibrant yet cosy feel with the warming smell of charcoal grill cooking in the background. We were looked after brilliantly by the staff and exceptional service throughout.

Some of the menu highlights include the signature Hereford beef sirloin not only does it melt-in-the-mouth but the flavour is truly succulent.

Elsewhere on the menu is the free-range chicken served with charred hispi cabbage, roasted carrots, beef fat roast potatoes and red wine jus. The dish is served with a truffled cauliflower cheese which is rich and indulgent and something that we are going to try and recreate at home cooking the next Sunday roast.

Menu highlights and prices:

  • October roast special Tamworth pork belly – Available for one (£26) or for sharing (£48).
  • Hereford beef sirloin – Available as a single portion (£29) or a generous sharing option (£53).
  • Free-range chicken with sage and apricot stuffing – Available for one (£24) or sharing (£42).

The restaurant also offers a wide range of other dishes including premium steaks, burgers, and a variety of seasonal specials. Bookings are recommended, but walk-ins are welcome, and the venue is pet-friendly.
