I made air fryer sticky salmon bites – they're so succulent and take 8 minutes to cook

Air fryer recipes are everywhere at the moment thanks to Jamie Oliver’s new channel 4 show, Jamie’s Air Fryer Meals.

Air fryers tend to cook dishes quickly and are more energy and cost-efficient than ovens which is why many people are ditching their conventional ovens for an air fryer.

Some of the most popular air fryer meals include garlic bread, sweet potato fries, chicken wings and chicken breasts.

One recipe that recently went viral on TikTok and Instagram was Lirim Gula’s salmon bites. Lirim is a chef turned content creator and the man behind @GulasGrub.

The recipe is super simple and can be prepared and cooked in “under 15 minutes”, according to the chef.

Once cooked in the air fryer, the salmon bites are tossed in a sweet and sour sauce that’s utterly delicious.

I decided to give the recipe a go and was absolutely blown away by the end result – it’s filling, packed with protein, sweet, sticky and full of flavour.

I served my salmon bites with half a packet of microwaved rice but you could have them in a salad or by themselves as a snack.

How to make air fryer salmon bites

Ingredients:

Salmon bites

  • 500g salmon
  • 25g oil to coat
  • Two tsp five Spice

Sauce

  • Two tbsp oyster Sauce
  • Two tbsp soy Sauce
  • One tbsp sweet Chilli
  • One tsp white Rice Vinegar
  • One tbsp sesame oil
  • One tbsp honey
  • One tbsp siracha
  • One tsp minced Chilli

Method:

Firstly, chop your salmon up into even-sized chunks. You can remove the skin if you wish but I decided to keep it on as I love it when it goes crispy in the air fryer.

Next, toss your salmon bites in oil and the five spice. I decided to use spray oil but you could use any oil of your choice.

Then, pop your salmon bites directly into the air fryer and cook for eight minutes at 160C.

While they’re cooking, combine all of your sauce ingredients in a bowl making sure to thoroughly stir it.

Put the sauce in a frying pan on a medium heat and add your cooked salmon bites. Fry the salmon and sauce for a couple of minutes so the salmon is completely coated in the sauce.

Cook your rice or side of choice and serve warm.
