A man struggling to get on the property ladder spent just £15k on his first home – by building it in his parents’ garage.
Josh Jones convinced his parents to let him convert the garage attached to their four-bed home in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, into an apartment.
After saving £4,000, Josh, 21, decided to spend it on transforming the place.
He started in January 2023 and took eight months to finish the job.
Josh said: “I learned to do it all on YouTube. I had to strip the garage roof, repair it and then insulate it.
“I levelled out the garage floor, we damp-proofed it and added drainage. I added walls, a kitchen, bathroom and living room.”
The landscaper spent £14,700 on materials and moved into the property with his girlfriend this month.
“Renting is ridiculously expensive and never an option for me. I can see myself living here for the next 10 years,” he added.
He now wants to work with his brother and dad to do garage conversions and development.
