I cleaned my shower screen in 15 minutes with 1 natural item – not vinegar or baking soda

Cleaning a shower screen may seem easy enough, but it can often be tricky to get rid of all the stains and streaks without having to wipe at the glass for ages.

Over time, soap scum from shampoo and body washes can build up to form a thin layer on glass that will eventually harden to form streaks.

Shower screens are also susceptible to limescale forming on the glass, which is hard stains made up of water minerals that dry into the surface to create unsightly spots.

While there are many special cleaning products you can use to clean glass, I decided to try using a cheap solution made up of ingredients already in my home and was surprised at how effective it was.

I went online and discovered that one of the best ways to clean shower screens is by mixing together washing-up liquid and lemon juice.

It may seem strange but washing up liquid has been designed to to break down grease and oil, which means it dissolves the soap residue that is stubbornly clinging to the glass.

Lemon juice is acidic which can break down the calcium and megensium and limescale to get rid of stains without leaving cloudy spots on the glass.

How to clean your shower screen naturally without using chemicals

You will need:

  • Washing up liquid
  • Lemon juice
  • Boiling hot water
  • Empty spray bottle

Method:

All I did was put down a dish towel, unscrew the lid of the empty spray bottle and add a generous amount of washing-up liquid.

I then boiled the kettle and poured in the lemon juice, and once the boiling hot water was ready I added enough so that the spray bottle was full.

I then shook the bottle to mix everything together, and sprayed a generous amount of both the inside and outside of the shower glass screen.

I pushed the shower screen so most of it was hovering over my bath as the solution quickly began dripping down the glass.

I left the solution for 15 minutes in order to give the washing-up liquid and lemon juice time to break down the stains. During this time I simply cleaned other parts of my bathroom.

Once the time was up I got a clean microfiber cloth and gave the shower screen a quick wipe down.

My shower screen was sparkling clean and polished without any cloudy streaks on it.

I was really happy with the result as it was almost effortless and meant I did not have to spend money on more cleaning products for the bathroom.
