Hurricane Milton triggers flight cancellations at JFK, LaGuardia, Newark

Flight cancellations in and out of John F. Kennedy, LaGuardia and Newark airports to Florida piled up Wednesday as Hurricane Milton made landfall on the storm-beleaguered Gulf Coast.

Popular destinations like West Palm Beach, Tampa and Orlando either had no reported flights, or had cancelled flights altogether as of Wednesday night. Airlines such as United Airlines, Air Canada, Delta, JetBlue, and Spirit were all grounded, flight trackers showed.

Flights out of JFK to Fort Lauderdale and Miami faced some delays, though they were operational. Flights out of LaGuardia to Jacksonville were fully operational,  while those out of Miami faced cancellations.

It was a mixed bag for flights out of Fort Lauderdale, which were operational but with some cancellations, trackers showed.

Newark Liberty International Airport flights to Miami, however, were fully operational, while flights out of Fort Lauderdale to Newark, though facing some delays, were still getting off the ground. There were no reported flights out of Jacksonville, trackers showed.

A whopping 2,681 cancellations were reported Wednesday — with the majority coming from Florida airports, according to.flightaware; 407 flights were cancelled out of Orlando International, 192 flights were cancelled out of Tampa International and 115 flights were cancelled out of Miami International, the outlet reported.
