Yung Miami recently opened up about how Usher’s music got her through a time of grief in her life.
“My uncle had just got killed and they played Usher’s “Let It Burn” at the repast so every time I hear “Let it Burn” it just take me to a place of death,” she told Daily News at the 2024 BET Awards.
The former City Girls artist expressed why the 2009 single still makes her emotional today.
“It was like ‘Let it go, let it burn’. It wasn’t nothing bad. It was just that’s the moment that I remember Usher.”
Usher was honored at the ceremony Sunday with a Lifetime Achievement Award after a musical tribute performed by Childish Gambino, Keke Palmer, Chloe Bailey and Teyana Taylor.
As for Yung Miami, she’s in her solo era after her split from City Girls. The rapper says she’s working on new music as a solo artist now that the sister duo is no longer.
This all comes after she confirmed another split, her relationship with Sean “Diddy” Combs.
“We’re still friends! We’re still good friends!” she told The Cut last August. “But we’re single. That’s not my man.”
The Atlanta rapper had been romantically linked to Diddy since 2021, and was eventually roped in to the Rodney Jones lawsuit against the mogul.
Miami was accused of transporting a drug referred to as “pink cocaine” for Combs. However, sources close to the “Act Bad” artist deny the allegations, noting she was getting fitted for the Met Gala at the time Jones alleges she was transporting the drug.
Yung Miami has yet to comment on any accusations against Diddy.
